Safety First: Know Your Limits

Commercial refrigeration equipment involves high-voltage electricity and pressurized refrigerants. Never open electrical panels or touch internal wiring. These steps are for visual inspection only.

Power & Electrical Check

  • Check the Circuit Breaker (Visual Only)

From your service panel, check if a breaker has shifted to the "off" or "tripped" position. Note if a breaker is tripped, but do not attempt repeated resets if it trips again immediately.

  • External Power Switch

Identify if the unit has an external "Emergency Shutoff" or power toggle that may have been accidentally bumped.

“Many 'emergency' calls end up being a simple tripped breaker. Checking this first can save you a service fee and restoration time.”
“Restricted airflow is the leading cause of system overheating. Keeping your equipment clean is the best preventive maintenance.”

Airflow & Temperature

  • Condenser Coils (Visual Check)

Observe the coils (often on top or bottom of the unit). Note if they appear heavily covered in dust, grease, or blocked by debris.

  • Internal Air Obstructions

Ensure inventory is not stacked directly against evaporator fans or return air vents inside the unit.

  • Gasket Inspection

Visually check door seals for visible gaps, tears, or hardening that may be preventing a tight seal.

Is it “Icing Up”?

If you see visible ice buildup on the evaporator unit inside your cooler or freezer, something is failing. Try capturing a photo of the ice pattern. Including this in your request is extremely helpful for diagnostics.

Do not chip away ice with sharp objects. This can puncture refrigerant lines.
